Back to Illustration Friday.
Did I mention that I’m part of the AZ Chapter of SCBWI – Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators? It’s a very long name for one if not the only association dedicated solely to improve the craft of the Children’s Books and their authors and illustrators. If you are not a member, join us.
We have a really strong Chapter in AZ – check out our newly, relaunched site. I’m the Co-Illustrators Representatives for the AZ Chapter. I bet you didn’t know that about me, did you?
NOW… to my post.
Pat Cummings is coming to AZ to give a full day workshop – “SCBWI-AZ Illustrators’ Intensive“. Pat is an award winning author and illustrator currently living in NY and teaching illustration at Parsons.
Workshop will be held in Scottsdale on Saturday, October 4th. This workshop will focus on developing a provocative, narrative image that showcases the widest range of individual skills possible. Homework assignment required.
Class size limited to 20. Download your registration here and mail it today!
NOTE: SCBWI-AZ Logo designed by Juana :) Isn’t it gorgeous?
So the class was this past Monday. It was awesome! 15 ladies and I all having so much fun. I didn’t bring a camera but two of the girls that came took some pics. I’ll post them when I get them. Thanks, Laura and Mary. Can’t wait to get them posted!
Thanks to Mary Benton for her nice words in her blog. I’m glad you loved the workshop so much.
This is the demo piece for the workhop.
It’s been hectic the last few weeks. I have neglected the blog and a few important things in my life. My hubbie and my boys are not in that list :)
A fun sketch that will be supplied as an option piece to use as inspiration (!) Hope you and the students enjoy it.
Can’t wait until August 4th when I’ll be giving the workshop at Art Unraveled this year.
I’m working with the people attending getting their drawings and comps ready for that day.
We’ll work on a small piece and I want for everybody to get to work immediately. We’ll transfer the drawings, paint with acrylics and add 3-d elements.
“It made the children laugh and play;
to see a lamb at school”.
This past weekend I took a three day workshop with acrylic artist, Nancy Reyner. If you have thought about trying acrylics, she is the person to talk to. She is an awesome teacher. Really. And I’m a tough critic. Check her schedule of workshops. They are all worth a trip from anywhere. Otherwise, get her book.
Lorena is a test of acrylic mediums. Isn’t she great?
Lost of mixed feelings from the loooooooong trip of 24 days around Italy. At the workshop I met an illustration buddy,
Marta Montañá. Her blog is pretty cool. Her artwork is
very whimsical and sweet. Un gusto conocerte, Marta!
Saludos desde el otro lado del charco, como tu dices.
Some pics of the workshop.

Hard at work.
The Spanish speaking girls. Marta right next to me. Gloria Falcon, my roomie, in the middle. Her artwork on the table.
I’m excited and I look forward to it. I’m already prepping for it. I will complete some new pieces to show the guys at the class and will be posting images as I finish the new paintings.
Bravo Juana. Bravo Art Unraveled.
Love Mary so? Love Mary so?
Why does the lamb love Mary so?
The eager children cry.
Ms. Teacher had a theory for that.
