    Dia de los Ninos ASU

    El Día de los Niños, El Día de los Libros is a national day of tribute to children, literacy, and culture most often celebrated through local events in Southwestern communities. It is a celebration of children and the importance of advocating literacy for youth of every language and every ethnic background.

    The purpose of the event is to create a space for elementary and high school students to partake in a variety of multicultural and multilingual literacy-based reading and writing activities, while enjoying stories from their favorite storytellers and authors. This is a true celebration of culture, language, and literacy.

    The Department of English presents the seventh annual Día De Los Niños / Día De Los Libros celebration of kids, language, and culture. Special guests include Duncan Tonatiuh (keynote), Austin Aslan, Ryan Dalton, Tom Leveen, Juana Martinez-Neal, Amy Nichols, Aprilynne Pike, Amy Nichols, and Reyna Grande.

    The event is for kids in 6-12th grades and attendees must be sponsored by their schools (teachers must register and accompany their students).

    Additional event partners include ASU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Phoenix Book Company, and Dunkin' Donuts.

    One of the largest and most prestigious literary festivals in the country, the annual Texas Book Festival features 250+ nationally and critically recognized adult and children’s authors, 20+ venues including the State Capitol, 80+ exhibitors, live music, local food trucks, family activities, and countless opportunities to meet authors and fellow book lovers.

    AASL 18th National Conference Pre-Conference Cultural Tour
    Art and Architecture in the American Southwest

    This full-day tour will immerse attendees in art and architecture of the American Southwest.

    The day starts with a 1.5-hour tour of Taliesin West, the beloved winter home and studio of innovative architect, writer, and educator Frank Lloyd Wright.

    In the afternoon, guests will travel to the home of Mary Wong, a former school librarian in the Phoenix area. Guests will receive a boxed lunch, before setting out to view more than 100 illustrations in Mary’s home.

    Tour participants will have the opportunity to meet five local illustratorsLynne Avril, Molly Idle, Wendy Watson, Mike Venezia, and Juana Martinez-Neal – and win their donated sketches, small art spots and drawings as door prizes. The illustrators will be available for Q/A sessions regarding their work and upcoming projects. Their books will also be available for purchase and autographing.

    Mesa Book Festival

    Organized by Anthology, Inc., a Mesa, AZ, based literary non profit organization, the Mesa Book festival is intended to be the annual event to showcase the literary arts in the east valley.

    We'll have readers throughout the Festival at Mesa's Christmas Tree, a 30' tall Christmas tree that is the centerpiece of Mesa's annual holiday celebration, just for kids.

    The Mesa Book Festival will be held on December 9th from 2pm to 8pm in downtown Mesa -Macdonald Street between Main Street and 1st Avenue. For more info visit mesabookfestival.com
